My solution to this particular issue has been a product called Leica Disto ( a measuring device which measures the distance with a Laserlight - exact to a 1/16" of an inch).
It is a very versatile Product.
Great when measuring Rooms for Floor Covering Products such as Carpets, etc. Very efficient, as one does not have to fiddle along with a long 25' Tape. No Posibility of scratich Furniture or Walls. Specially great when measuring long Hallways of Offices during Business Hours.
Like last week, I was out on a Job, measuring a Room for a Lighting Design Project. In a very quick and fast efficient way, I had measured the import Details one needs to know with no running a long 25' Tape across the Room. Even the Client was surprised how fast it went.
Or another Example: Modern contemporary Home, one has to measure for large Triangular Windows for Shades. A 25' Tape would be cumbersome and probably not exact either as all the Windows are 15' above Floor and difficult to reach.
With the Leica DISTO it was a snap to do. Precise and fast and not time consuming at all. Hunter Douglas Window Fashions now realized the advantages of this Laser Tool now too and just commented in their latest Views Magazine (Magazine for HD Window Fashion Retailers), that they are working on an Interface, which takes the measurements from the Leica DISTO and transfers them into their Ordering System. Something I recommended already several years ago when attending their Training Seminars.

Just when you thought the nautical look had evolved as much as it could - along comes "Trap", the unusual lighting line and coordinating Bean Bag chair from Darono. Both items are styled after the glass fishing floats that collectors covet. It's a look that you could use anywhere and one that would be especially stunning when both pieces are used together. The chair is synthetic fur under the netting - how soft would that be? And the netting is sturdy, a blend of viscose and polyester. So sturdy, you can sling the bean bag over your shoulder if you want to move it! (See photo below.) The pendant lamp is suitable for indoor or outdoor use and the netting is also a combination of viscose and polyester with a polyethylene globe inside. Imagine a row of these pendant lights on the covered porch of a beach house. It's the stuff dreams are made of!
What a fantastically soft looking chair - big overstuffed pillows with a reclining back - could you ask for anything more? Oh yes, it's modular, so you can create different positions, reclining at different rates, a corner piece, even put several together and create a sofa! This Fashion D'Autore chair is from Futura, the same forward-looking Italian company that brought us the sectional convertible sofa with storage box, which we have written about previously. The fabric has such flowing and almost spiritual lines, as if it is at one with its purpose. And repurpose... there are so many different ways you could use this. If you remove the reclining back completely, it becomes a pouf ottoman, push several together and you have a lounger or day bed. Build it in a corner, or built it in the center of the room as a sofa. And how easy is it to change your mind and move things around? This versatile chair would look fantastic everywhere from the sun room to the bedroom. But no matter where you put it, you'll find it calling to you with its big overstuffed comfortable look.
The Din Desk is a marvelous combination of shelves and desk that looks more like architecture than furniture. It's light and spacious - yet has plenty of room for everything. What a modern, clean look - we love it! It really is the perfect piece for the home office, because it doesn't look like the office at all. It looks more like a piece of living room furniture. It would even work well in the kitchen, wouldn't it? It could work anywhere you can utilize the grid-like shelves. What a great piece for a loft environment. This piece also works very well as a space divider and because it's so open - it keeps the room feeling larger. Perfect for small spaces too!
With this armchair in the Ruche collection, one arm is much shorter than the other and it's your choice which side that is. This armchair is a continuation of the collection that introduced the Ruche sofa we've written about before (only in lemon yellow). And we think it's very funky. And it looks very soft and comfortable. It's available in a wide variety of fabrics and colors: velvet, wool, fabric, microfiber and of course, leather. It can be used perfectly with the collection's existing ottoman, too. The armchair completes this collection which also includes a Ruche sofa, one-armed sofa, ottoman and beds. And the name, "Ruche"? That refers to the sewing technique with which the fabric is quilted. Which colors and fabrics will you choose?
It?s a chair that brings ?creature comforts? back home. Dubbed the ?Origine Du Monde, Maybe!? chair, this unusual, ultra-modern chair was design by Italo Rota for Italian furniture house Meritalia. The soft hues complement the plush cushions perfectly, forming what the designed has described as ?uterine sensuality.? The cushions are made of memory foam which, in keeping with the obviously maternal theme of the design, reminds us of protection, rest and the future. The base is made from polished aluminum, irregular in shape, just like the chair concept as a whole, If you like unique, one-of-a-kind pieces, this is a must-see! Check it out at Meritalia.
Is it a radiator, or is it artwork? These cool modern radiators by Caleido are both! The Therme home radiator is an masterful swirl of brilliant hues reminiscent of watercolor. For more-modern tastes, the Geiger radiator features a computer-generated design set on a sleek, black background. The elongated rectangular shape is easy to incorporate among your existing artwork, or let it steal the spotlight and feature it as an art piece all on its own. These cool radiators are by Karim Rashid, who stayed true to his signature funky style. These new radiators made their debut at Salone Internazionale del Mobile 2010. Fore more info visit Caleido.
This new funky furniture by German company Bruehl is inspired by natural forms with an ultra-modern edge. Featuring the ups and downs of mountaintops with an abstract twist, the Coupole sofa and armchair (pictured above) by designer Kati Meyer-Bruhl feature a curved back and armrests and a delicate body clad in fabric that?s heaven to the touch, available in white and sky blue. The Morning Dew chairs (pictured below), also by designer Kati Meyer-Bruhl, are inspired by tulips, with their graceful petals forming the back and arm rests. A soft seat in an irregular shape beckons. This modern flower-inspired chair is featured in vibrant rose and white upholstery, as well as red-and-white plaid. Combine the Coupole and Morning Dew lines for a fun living room or a funky family room. Visit Bruehl for details.
The grand finale to the epic Moroso M?Afrique collection sends it out with a bang! As the final pieces of the outdoor furniture line, the Ibiscus armchair and the Meridienne sofa by designer Dominique Petot make a style statement that screams: Big! Bold! Beautiful! The design consists of wild shapes and even wilder woven patterns if you can imagine that. These vibrant red, brown and white patio pieces echo the shape of a traditional British armchair and lounger, with armrests and a high back to recline into. Frames come in the choice of natural or lacquered steel. Check out this cool outdoor furniture line at Moroso.
